Using High Performance Computing to Make Stars in a Jar
The Laboratory for Laser Energetics (LLE) at the University of Rochester is a key U.S. resource for researching inertial confinement fusion (ICF), aiming to harness nuclear fusion for clean energy. Collaborating with the Department of Energy's National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), LLE uses supercomputers to model materials, lasers, and experiments. Recently, the LLE upgraded to a new supercomputer, Conesus, built by Dell Technologies with 4th Gen Intel® Xeon® processors. This system improves computational capacity, aiding ICF research, materials modeling, and the use of machine learning for deeper insights.
