Virtual Product Design of a Medical Autoinjector

Pages 3 Pages

Nolato developed a complex medical autoinjector requiring high reliability, manufacturability, and durability. Using Altair’s integrated simulation-driven design workflow, engineers performed virtual prototyping across fluid dynamics, structural performance, drop testing, and injection molding simulation. Multiscale material modeling captured fiber orientation effects in reinforced thermoplastics, improving accuracy in warpage and strength predictions. The unified workflow allowed design optimization before tooling, reduced scrap and rework risk, and ensured the first physical prototype met functional requirements. The project demonstrated how early simulation accelerates medical device development while lowering cost and risk.
