5 Tips for Giving Effective 360 Feedback
Effective 360‑degree feedback should be respectful, specific, and grounded in personal experience. Provide details only when they are helpful and avoid comments you would not feel comfortable discussing directly with the participant. Feedback should never attack a person’s motives or intent, and absolute terms like “always” or “never” should be avoided, as they are rarely accurate and often create defensiveness. Ratings and comments must be based on firsthand interactions, not hearsay or gossip. Poorly framed feedback can leave individuals stuck in surprise or anger, preventing acceptance and growth. When delivered with care, clarity, and empathy, feedback becomes constructive and supports meaningful development rather than resistance.
