Despite Tech Layoffs, Competition for Talent Remains Fierce
Tech company hiring worldwide has slowed sharply since late 2020, reflecting layoffs and tighter budgets, especially in cloud computing. However, competition for talent remains intense, particularly for critical engineering skills. While hiring within the tech sector has declined, demand for tech talent is rising in nontech industries, where job postings are growing faster and, in some periods, exceed those from tech companies. As a result, competition for skilled workers is shifting beyond traditional tech firms, signaling that despite overall slowdown, scarce digital and engineering capabilities remain highly sought after across the broader economy.
