This report summarizes Akamai’s environmental strategy and progress toward building a more sustainable internet. The company established five goals for 2030: power global operations with 100% renewable energy, improve platform energy efficiency by 50%, mitigate all platform emissions, engage major suppliers on Scope 3 emissions, and recycle all network e-waste. Akamai reported that its platform grew 182% while energy use increased only 9%, and delivering one gigabyte of data became 61% more efficient than in 2015. More than 60% of global operations and 80% of European operations were powered by renewable energy. The strategy combines renewable procurement, efficient hardware, streamlined software, responsible e-waste handling, and emissions reporting for customers.
