2023 VPN Risk Report
This Cybersecurity Insiders report, sponsored by Zscaler, analyzes survey responses from 382 IT and cybersecurity professionals to evaluate the effectiveness and risks of traditional VPNs. The findings reveal widespread dissatisfaction with VPN performance, management complexity, and security, with 72% of organizations reporting poor user experiences and 88% expressing concern that VPNs jeopardize security. Nearly half experienced attacks exploiting VPN vulnerabilities during the previous year, including phishing, ransomware, malware, and zero-day exploits, while 90% worried that third-party VPN access could serve as an entry point for attackers.
