A 2022 survey of 500 IT and security decision‑makers across the US, UK, France, and Germany found leaders highly confident in their cybersecurity readiness, yet the reality of frequent ransomware attacks suggests this confidence is misplaced. Despite known risks, many organizations still rely on outdated networking protocols commonly abused by ransomware groups and maintain large numbers of unmanaged devices that expose critical data. These practices, combined with rising attack frequency, highlight a dangerous gap between perceived and actual security posture.
