How the U.S. Can Reshore the Semiconductor Industry
The U.S. has an opportunity to reshore semiconductor manufacturing, but success depends heavily on addressing talent challenges. Over the past two decades, outsourcing has weakened the domestic talent pool and expertise, making workforce shortages a key barrier. With growing demand, tens of thousands of new jobs could be created, supported by government funding and state incentives to attract manufacturers. However, finding skilled talent remains the most critical issue, as industry skills continue to evolve. By focusing on developing adjacent and emerging skills, the U.S. can strengthen its workforce and better position itself to rebuild semiconductor capacity and competitiveness.
