This report examines European readiness for the NIS 2 Directive based on Zscaler’s April 2024 survey of more than 875 IT leaders across six markets. Although 80% feel confident they will meet the deadline and 14% say they already have, the report finds a major disconnect: only 53% believe their IT teams fully understand the requirements, 49% believe leadership does, and only 31% rate current cyber hygiene as excellent. It highlights challenges around technology stack updates, employee and leadership education, risk management, business continuity, access controls, cryptography, MFA, supply chain security, and incident handling. The report argues that NIS 2 compliance should be treated as a catalyst for proactive cybersecurity, Zero Trust adoption, and long-term resilience beyond checks.
