Significance of Interoperability and EMSPs in India’s EV Charging Industry
This industry insight examines the importance of interoperability and E-Mobility Service Providers (EMSPs) in supporting the growth of India’s electric vehicle (EV) charging ecosystem. While the Indian EV market remains at an early stage, with EVs accounting for less than 2% of total vehicle sales and approximately 340,000 registrations in FY2022, rapid growth is expected in the coming years. However, the country’s limited public charging infrastructure, with only around 3,500 charging stations, presents a significant challenge. The report highlights the need for substantial investment and coordinated development of charging networks. Interoperability enables EV users to access multiple charging stations through a seamless experience, while EMSPs help connect drivers with charging services
