EY examines AI’s dual role in cybersecurity: strengthening defenses while simultaneously giving attackers more powerful, accessible tools. AI can accelerate threat detection, automate incident response, reduce false positives, and lower breach costs, but generative and autonomous AI also increase risks from deepfakes, social engineering, data leakage, model manipulation, and other attacks. EY argues that organizations must secure AI across models, data, infrastructure, and applications while embedding governance throughout the AI lifecycle. For CISOs, priorities include real-time visibility, scalable analytics, workforce upskilling, regulatory alignment, and “cyber decision intelligence” that enables faster, informed responses as AI-driven threats continue to evolve.
