Harnessing Subscriber- Centric Optimization for the Next Generation of Self-Organizing Networks
Self‑organizing networks have gained interest since 3GPP began studying their concepts in 2006 to address growing network size and complexity. As 3G matured, operators faced challenges integrating multiple radio access technologies within increasingly heterogeneous networks. Rising traffic volumes and diverse services such as voice, data, and SMS added to the complexity, while expanding configuration parameters made optimization difficult. Subscriber‑centric SON aims to simplify this environment by enabling more efficient, automated network performance improvements.
