Urwahn Bikes used Altair Inspire to optimize a 3D-printed steel bicycle frame while meeting DIN ISO safety standards. The goal was to reduce weight and wall thickness without compromising stiffness or durability. Engineers simulated multiple dynamic and static load cases, including pedaling and impact scenarios, and applied topology optimization to redistribute material efficiently. The result was a 20% weight reduction, 15% thinner walls, and 40% less testing time. Simulation enabled rapid iteration, reduced material usage, and supported Urwahn’s sustainable, additive-manufacturing-driven bike production strategy.
