WLAN Guided “Pick-by-Voice” Warehouse Goods Picking
An international food retailer operates a WLAN-guided pick-by-voice system across 70 regional warehouses in Europe to support efficient goods picking. The solution uses voice instructions to direct staff to picking locations and quantities, relying on overlapping round-beam antenna radio cells for full coverage. However, heavy overlap caused roaming issues for pick-by-voice devices, triggering disruptive warning beeps. These interruptions demotivated warehouse staff, slowed down picking processes, and increased personnel requirements. The challenge highlighted the need for optimized WLAN design to improve roaming performance, enhance worker experience, and restore productivity across large-scale warehouse operations.
