Thailand’s Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA) establishes strict requirements for organizations that collect or process personal data in Thailand, emphasizing data owners’ rights and the need for explicit consent. It broadens the scope of protected information and defines sensitive data categories that require stronger safeguards. Coming into effect in May 2019, shortly after the EU’s GDPR, the PDPA shares similar principles but adapts them to Thailand’s regulatory landscape. Both laws aim to strengthen privacy protection, increase accountability, and ensure organizations responsibly manage personal data.
