Improving Gearbox Oiling Design: HYCET Uses nanoFluidX to Improve Gearbox Efficiency and Avoid Mechanical Failures
HYCET Transmission Technology needed deeper insight into gearbox lubrication behavior to prevent mechanical failures such as pitting and erosion in high-speed electric drivetrains. Using Altair nanoFluidX and SimLab, engineers simulated complex two-phase oil and air flow under extreme RPM conditions. The SPH-based CFD approach revealed oil trajectories, aeration levels, windage effects, and lubrication coverage that were difficult to observe experimentally. Simulation reduced reliance on physical testing while improving understanding of churning losses and cooling performance. The result was faster design iteration, reduced development costs, and more reliable, efficient gearbox designs suitable for next-generation electric and hybrid vehicles.
