The New Mexico Educational Retirement Board modernized aging VDI infrastructure supporting more than 165,000 members and over $100 million in monthly benefit payments. Its legacy Horizon 7 environment suffered latency of up to 2,000ms, fragmented thin-client configurations, conferencing problems, and security concerns around contractor VPN access. NMERB moved to Horizon 8 on Amazon WorkSpaces Core, avoiding a major data-center investment while gaining Windows 11, native collaboration support, and Blast Extreme performance. Today, about 70% of the agency relies on Horizon VDI, with faster sessions, fewer support tickets, and secure workspaces for contractors.
